First Light Statement 22nd April 2021

We have become aware of a number of messages and posts circulating on social media originating from TikTok in the US which encourages men to perpetrate sexual violence on April 24th 2021. We understand from Devon and Cornwall Police there is no specific threat in Devon & Cornwall related to this shocking campaign.

It is clear from the influx of calls and messages we have received that the issue is causing a great deal of distress to our communities. It has been suggested that these threats of sexual violence are a hoax, however, it is a stark reality that the threat of sexual violence and abuse is very real within our society and needs to be both acknowledged and addressed as a matter of urgency.

We believe that sole responsibility lays with those that perpetrate violence and abuse but sadly because of the culture we live in today people still need to take measures to keep themselves safe.
