Lyn Gooding, Chief Executive:
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Sarah Everard, following the conviction and sentencing of her perpetrator, and the family and friends of all those murdered on our streets and in our homes.
“The need for real, tangible change to tackle violence against women and girls is long overdue. It should not be left to the responsibility of individual women and girls to keep themselves safe when going about their business. It must become everyone’s responsibility to challenge behaviours and change culture and demand that our politicians act to create a safer society for all.
“We must all hold those in power to account to bring about real change to protect the lives of those who live in fear of violence and abuse. We do not need yet another review. The time for action is now so that we can start saving lives and preventing more pain and heartache for families and friends.
“For those who are currently experiencing domestic abuse or sexual violence or abuse or are a friend or family member concerned about someone else who may be experiencing such abuse, First Light offers a range of help and support, the details of which can be found on our website.”
