Amanda’s fundraising story

Amanda Wills took part in TrekFest after feeling like she needed a bit of adventure and challenge in her life. She decided to fundraise for First Light after beginning her training with us to become a volunteer mentor.

There are two main ways to get involved:

Take part in a fundraising event
Many of the people we help at First Light are taking a first, brave step.

We mirror this in our organised fundraising events and challenges which give you a fun way to be brave, set yourself a challenge, and raise money for First Light in the process.

Do your own fundraising
Whether you’d rather be a host or hostess with the mostest, or set yourself a daredevil challenge, there are lots of ways to raise vital funds for First Light.

Steve’s fundraising story

Steve Colcombe ran the Plymouth 5k and raised £400 for First Light. He and his wife Sue are also regular givers who donate each month.

Our 100 ways to fundraise leaflet includes some great ideas to get you thinking, including:
  • putting on a karaoke night or even a mini festival,
  • climbing a mountain,
  • organising a dancing, surfing or talent contest,
  • walking a certain distance,
  • hosting a fancy dress party, coffee morning or games night,
  • running a face painting stall or treasure hunt.

Once you’ve made a decision, it also includes tips on how to plan your event, from choosing a date and time, to promotion and preparation.
