Volunteer

When you join our team as a volunteer you’ll receive comprehensive training to grow your knowledge and skills. Volunteering with First Light can also be a great pathway to further training and employment. Many people who volunteer with us end up working for us.

You may have lived through domestic abuse or sexual violence and want to use your experience to help others, or you may be looking to support a charity that really makes a difference to people’s lives.

You can help by becoming a:
Mentor volunteer (Cornwall only)
Supporting people affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence who need a little extra time and support to move forward. You’ll help them to feel heard and be listened to. This is not a counselling model, it’s a listening and mentoring role.
Event volunteer
Love chatting to people? At First Light we have a presence at a number of events from Freshers Fayres to Community Prides. As an event volunteer you’ll help to run fun activities that encourage people into our stand to chat.

*To be included

Every time I speak to a client, I feel honoured to be taken into their confidence, and to be walking beside them as a mentor. It is a strange thing to say when you are listening to people’s pain but I think it is about knowing that you are making a difference and giving them a voice.”
