GP Domestic Abuse Support Advisor (DASA)

Positions available: 1
Salary: £23,400 per annum (pro rata) rising to £23,868 per annum (pro rata) on successful completion of probation.
Hours: 18.5 hours per week Monday to Wednesday
Holiday: 25 days (pro rata) rising incrementally to 30 days (pro rata) after five years, plus all bank holidays.
Base: Covering East Cornwall
Contract: Fixed term until 31st January 2025
Key responsibilities:

The GP Domestic Abuse Advisor will:

  • Provide support to those experiencing Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence referred via the primary care clinicians. • Provide direct casework support, advice, information, and advocacy to all genders experiencing domestic abuse through telephone contact, and/or meetings at the relevant practice.
  • Provide support and on-going training for health professionals in general practice on understanding, responding to, and asking about domestic abuse and sexual violence.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with GP practice teams.
  • Ensure that the victim feels supported, listened to and believed.
  • Signpost/refer and broker access to information advice and support.
  • Aim of increasing the number of referrals made by GP surgeries for domestic abuse support.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential electronic case management records and contribute to monitoring for the service

Essential requirements:
  • Literacy skills and experience working with database
  • hold a full driving licence
  • experience working with victims of DA/SV, or working with vulnerable people
  • working within a multiagency and registration framework
  • confident in delivering training
  • understanding safeguarding issues(children and vulnerable adults)
  • understanding the principles of risk assessment, safety planning and risk management for victims of domestic abuse and their children
  • have excellent communication, negotiation and advice skills, both written and verbal when interacting with a range of agencies and individuals
  • understanding and be committed to equality opportunities and diversity issues in policy and practice.
