New Campaign Launch: #NoMoreGreyAreas – Bond and Beyond

Exploring James Bond 007 with First Light’s Latest Awareness Campaign

Next week, we’re excited to launch a thought-provoking new campaign: #NoMoreGreyAreas – Bond and Beyond, created by our intern Annabel Grace during her one-week placement with First Light.

Annabel spent her time with us gaining insight into our marketing and fundraising work, as well as learning more about the vital support services we offer. Her campaign, developed independently, takes a bold look at an iconic cultural figure: James Bond 007. But rather than focusing on the cars and cocktails, it examines something more serious, the way sexual violence is often glorified in popular media.

Why James Bond 007?

James Bond has been portrayed for decades as the ultimate spy, charming, daring, and unapologetically masculine. But his actions on screen often cross lines that shouldn’t be blurred. Annabel’s campaign encourages people, especially young adults, to reconsider the influence of Bond as a role model and to think critically about what his portrayal tells us about consent, gender stereotypes, and masculinity.

#NoMoreGreyAreas aims to highlight how media normalises coercion and minimises the importance of consent and why this matters in the real world.

What to Expect from the Campaign

Running across both Instagram and TikTok, the campaign includes a daily theme designed to educate, challenge, and spark conversation:

We kick things off by asking: why are we talking about James Bond 007 now? With a new Bond-themed game released, it’s the perfect time to reflect on how this character continues to be celebrated despite his troubling behaviours.

Using scenes from various Bond films, we explore the difference between true consent and coercive behaviour, offering accessible, clear guidance for younger audiences.

We take a closer look at the portrayal of Bond Girls and the long-standing gender stereotypes they reinforce, particularly around beauty, submission, and disposability.

Bond is often seen as the blueprint for being a “real man.” We will challenge harmful masculine norms and encourages more positive, inclusive alternatives.

We highlight the powerful role media plays in shaping our cultural beliefs, and why it’s vital to teach young people how to critically assess what they see on screen.

This isn’t just about 007. We explore other TV shows and films that have normalised sexual violence, showing how widespread these issues really are.

We round up the key takeaways from the campaign, what we’ve learnt, what needs to change, and how we can all do better moving forward.

Why This Campaign Matters

At First Light, we support people who’ve experienced sexual violence, abuse, or exploitation. A key part of that mission involves challenging the attitudes, norms, and narratives that allow this harm to go unchallenged in the first place.

This campaign is not about “cancelling” James Bond 007. It’s about recognising the impact of media on our beliefs and behaviours and giving people the tools to question what they see, rather than accept it uncritically.

Get Involved

Follow us on Instagram and TikTok next week to take part in the campaign. Share your thoughts using #NoMoreGreyAreas, and help us open up more honest conversations around consent, gender roles, and media representation.

Let’s go beyond Bond  and work towards a world where everyone’s boundaries are respected.
