We are excited to announce that we have been awarded new funding from the Livewell Foundation to support our Therapy Programme for 5 – 10 year olds who’ve experienced Sexual Abuse. This grant will enable us to provide therapeutic support sessions for children in the Plymouth area who have experienced sexual violence and are struggling with poor mental health.
The project will deliver blocks of six one-on-one therapeutic sessions to each child, led by a qualified professional with expertise in working with young children. These sessions will employ child-centred approaches tailored to overcome the communication and emotional expression barriers typical in this age group. Our goal is to provide a safe space where children can process their emotions and experience, while feeling safe.
Building on the success of our self-funded pilot project, which delivered promising results, this expanded project will replicate and scale its positive impact to serve more children in need across Plymouth later this year. Feedback from the pilot showed that participating children experienced improved mental health and well-being, reporting feeling happier, calmer, safer, and more confident in themselves.
The funding will directly support the delivery of these therapeutic sessions, enabling us to provide the critical care and intervention these children need. By addressing their immediate mental health challenges and laying the foundation for emotional resilience, this project will provide vital support to some of Plymouth’s most vulnerable children.
