A Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) brings together professionals to safeguard victims at the highest risk of serious harm from domestic abuse. Any frontline practitioner who identifies high risk may make a referral.

“Proactive action planning should begin as soon as a case is identified for MARAC. Agencies should not wait until the meeting to consider safeguarding options; early actions taken prior to the meeting can significantly reduce risk and improve safety for the victim and any children involved.”
While a DASH risk score is helpful, it is not essential for making a referral. However, please ensure your referral clearly outlines:
The closing date for referrals is alternate Tuesdays at 4pm. Referrals received by this deadline will be listed for the following Tuesday’s MARAC meeting. If you have any questions, please contact the MARAC Coordinator at Plymouth.MARAC@firstlight.org.uk
A Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) is a collaborative meeting bringing together professionals and their expertise from across Plymouth who are committed to keeping people safe from domestic abuse and sexual violence.
At a MARAC, we focus on the individuals who are at the highest risk of harm. By sharing information and working together, we can build a much clearer picture of someone’s situation and put a meaningful, coordinated safety plan in place, one that’s far more effective than any single agency could create alone.
While the primary focus is on supporting the adult victim, we also take careful consideration of any children or unborn babies who may be affected.
Plymouth’s MARAC meets every two weeks, reviewing a number of cases at each meeting to ensure no one is left waiting for the support they need.
MARAC meetings bring together a range of professionals who may already be involved in someone’s life, including police, children’s services, health professionals, probation, and housing. Other organisations are also invited where they can add valuable insight.
Importantly, an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) attends each meeting to represent the voice and interests of the victim. The victim themselves does not need to attend.
