Support for Men

If have experienced sexual violence or domestic abuse, you’re not alone and we’re here to
support you.

The Office for National Statistics figures state that domestic abuse will affect 1 in 6 men during their lifetime. 1 in 20 men have been raped or sexually assaulted as an adult (Rape Crisis England & Wales).

We’re proud to have achieved Quality Standards in supporting men for both our Sexual Violence Advisory Service for Devon & Cornwall and Sexual Assault Centre for Swindon & Wiltshire (ISVA) Service.
It’s harder for guys to talk. It has helped me a lot, with issues. I don’t think I would be where I am right now if it wasn’t for my counsellor and First Light. I really appreciate it.”

Dedicated male staff

We have dedicated male staff available to anyone who would prefer to speak to a male advisor.

Our male Independent Sexual Violence Advisers (ISVA), for both men and boys, will support you and guide you through all your options, whether you want to report to the police or not. He can also help you understand the criminal court process as well as providing referrals and signposting to male specific services.

Our male Domestic Abuse Safety Advisor (DASA) in Cornwall is also on hand to assess any risks you may be facing, help with personal safety planning and link you and your family to other local support agencies.

Our Male Crisis Worker in Swindon & Wiltshire can advise you on your options and support you if you have experienced rape or sexual assault.

I wouldn’t have stayed and engaged or even engaged in the first place if there hadn’t been a male ISVA who understood me right from the start.”
