Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall recently visited First Light’s Sexual Violence Support Service in Plymouth, Devon.
The Duchess was greeted by Chief Executive Tom Dingwall and Plymouth Service Manager Cath Curno. Her Royal Highness met with staff of the charity including the Crisis Workers who run Plymouth’s Sexual Assault Referral Centre, Independent Sexual Violence Advisors, Counsellors, Therapists and the administrative team.
Following the staff introduction, one of the charity’s Crisis Workers provided The Duchess a guided tour of the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC). The Duchess then met with a recent survivor of sexual violence who had been supported by First Light through the Sexual Assault Referral Centre and Independent Sexual Violence Advisory Service.
Tom Dingwall, Chief Executive of First Light said: “We were absolutely thrilled to host The Duchess of Cornwall at our Sexual Violence Service in Plymouth and that she met our brilliant and committed team. I am particularly pleased that she spent considerable time with a recent sexual violence survivor to understand the impact this crime has, and the tangible positive difference our organisations makes to peoples’ lives. The Duchess’ visit has helped raise the profile of sexual violence in the city and the award-winning support services we provide in Plymouth and Cornwall. Given Her Royal Highness’ status within society, her personal commitment to ending these crimes and to safeguard support services to victims and survivors (as well as her national Wash Bag Initiative) is highly encouraging.”
